Biography

Fredericka was born in 1822, with baptism in Eschenriege, Neustettin, Pommern, Germany.[1] She was listed as the daughter of Johann Hübner (Huebner) and Henrietta Louise Böttcher (Boettcher). Baptism sponsors were Dorothee Louise (Mielke) Berwoldt of Schofhutten, Charlotte Louise Boettcher of Eschenriege, and Ernst Priebe of Gramenz.

Fredericka had a son August Carl Ernst Huebner in 1849 in Gramenz in Neustettin, Pommern, Germany. She was listed as unmarried on the baptism record. August was not the son of her future husband Carl Thom as he was referred to as a half-brother in Henrietta (Keiper) Thom's obituary. He emigrated to the US, settling in Rost, Jackson county, Minnesota.

She married Carl Ludwig Thom in Gramenz, Germany on 05 Nov 1852. [2] Her marriage record listed her as the daughter of Johann Hübner (or Huebner).

They had three daughters together - Hanne W. Thom who died at age 25 in Germany, Auguste Emelia (Thom) Eberhart, and Henrietta (Thom) Keiper. Both Emilia and Henrietta emigrated to the US, settling in Illinois.

Carl and Fredericka emigrated to the US in April of 1879 arriving on 11 Apr 1879 in New York on the ship Suevia.[3] Carl and Fredericka were listed as "between deck passengers." Between deck was another term referring to steerage. The ship Suevia was a large passenger ship that was assigned to Hamburg, Germany to New York runs starting in 1874.[4]

In 1880, they were in Piper City, Ford, Illinois.[5]

She passed away in 1892 on an unknown date; the year is listed on her tombstone. Fredericka was buried in Brenton cemetery near Piper City, Ford county, Illinois.[6]
