Thomas was born in 1849 or 1850. According to his obituary, Thomas was born near Franklin, Heard County, Georgia; however, his parents' households were enumeration in Oglethorpe County, Georgia in 1850 and Donnelsville, Madison County, Georgia in 1860, Thus far, documentation has not been located as to his middle name(s). It seems that there have been family trres that indicte Richardson or Robert. There are also four initials that appear in the 1860 census, their meaning unknown.
Thomas' parents, were Dr. William Benjamin Huff, M.D. (c 1817 Georgia - probably between 1870 and 1880 Jackson County, Georgia ) and Barbara (Anthony) Huff.
In about 1862, Thomas married Sarah Elizabeth Hawk, nickname: Sallie Hawk, a daughter of Daniel David Hawk, also went by David Hawk (c 1814 - after 1870) and Nancy Ann (Tucker) Hawk (1811 - 1880).

Thos. R. Huff
Died in Lanett, Friday, Jan. 3rd.
Mr. Thos. R. Huff, aged 79 years, died at the home of his son, Mr. T. H. Huff, in Lanett, last Friday, January 3rd. Mr. Huff was born in Heard county, Georgia, near Franklin, and had lived their until about one year ago, when his wife died. He was a good man, highly repected by all who knew him, and the friends of his family sympathize with them in their bereavement.
Funeral services were held at the Lanett Methodist church at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, Rev. C. L. Ellis, the pastor, being assisted by Rev. J. D. Dollar. Interment was in Lanett cemetery, Johnson & Blakely, funeral directors, in charge.
