Obituary

MADDERN. - On the 18th inst., at her residence, South street, Ballarat, Phillippa, relict of the late Richard Maddern, loved mother of Mrs. David Cooke and Richard Maddern, aged 90 years. OBITUARY: The many friends of Mrs Phillippa Maddern, of South street, will regret to learn of her death, which took place yesterday after a short illness. The deceased was born at St. Just, Cornwall, and was a colonist of 61 years. Her husband, Mr Richard Maddern, predeceased her 56 years ago. The late Mrs Maddern took an active interest in church work, and was a constant worshipper at the Lydiard street Methodist Church. She was of an amiable and unassuming disposition, and was highly esteemed by a wide circle of friends. It had been the intention of the family to celebrate her 90th birthday, which occurred yesterday, and many old friends were to have been present. The deceased leaves one son and one daughter, viz., Mr Richard Maddern, of the firm of Maddern and Son, auctioneers; and Mrs David Cooke, of Webster street; for whom much sympathy has been expressed. The funeral will take place to-day, at the Old Cemetery. Transcriber's Note: Born Hunkin in St Hilary.[5]
