On 8 June 1853, Isaac joined the Daniel A. Miller/John W. Cooley Company to travel to Deseret, Utah. He arrived in Deseret on 9 September 1853.[1]

Isaac was interviewed and was quoted as saying:

I went up the Miss[ississippi]. River and got a chance to work on a steamer at Keokuk. From here I went to Council Bluff Iowa and got a chance to drive a team to Salt Lake Valley.
We used to write love letters on boards and the bones from the head off the buffaloes for our sweethearts who were in the company following and used charcoal for a pencil.
We arrived in Salt Lake Valley in the fall of 1852 [1853]. I was married to the girl that gave me the cake and coffee while crossing the ocean, March 27, 1854.[4]

At the 1860 Census, 31-year-old Isaac lives with his wife and three children in Salt Lake, Utah.[5]

Research Notes

1870 Census: Martha Hunt: After some research, "Martha" appears as "Parthinia Hunt" on the 1880 Census with daughter, Louisa, with her and is Isaac's second wife in a polyamorous relationship. Previously this Martha was thought to be a daughter but did not make sense considering there was another daughter named Martha. Martha/Parthinia takes Isaac's name, and has children with him, which is indicated on the 1880 Census.
1880 Census: Louisa Hunt: Previous research wondered why Louise Hunt was on the 1870 census but not the 1880 and it was concluded that she must have died. However, she appears with Isaac's second wife and his other children on the 1880 Census.
