Harriot was born around 1769 (taken from baptism and death records) in Sutton Veny to Richard and Sarah.
When she was 21 in 1790 she married John Dutch. He was from Sutton Veny but worked in Frome, somerset as a shoemaker. They married in October but John died before the year was out.
Harriot then married Benjamin Whatley in 1793 in Sutton Veny. She was Benjamin's second wife. They had at least 6 children, 4 boys and 2 girls, one of whom died as a baby. At least 1 child, Rice stayed in the village as a labourer, another, John was a Farmer employing people in Sutton Veny.
Benjamin passed away in 1839 and it has not been possible to find a trace of Harriot in the 1841 census. She doesn't seem to have been staying with any of the children.
In the 1851 Census Harriot lives in Sutton Veny as an agricultural labourer (it says in in her 80's although her age is probably overestimated by 7 years) Her son, Rice lived a couple of doors away but he was on the breadline as he ended up a labourer in the Quarry and a pauper. Son Robert is a farmer employing 3 men and 3 boys with arable and pasture. Lots of Whatleys live in Sutton Veny, some are labourers, one is a scavenger!
Harriett passed away in 1853 aged 83.
