Biography

William Caswell Hutcheson was born 1604 in Scotland, and died 1688 in Lancaster, VA.He married Elizabeth Bond on 1655 in Isle of Wight, VA, daughter of Captain John Bond. Includes NotesNotes for William Caswell Hutcheson: The earliest record obtainable tells of Captain William Hutcheson, along with his brother, Captian Robert Hutcheson, coming from Scotland to Virginia during the first half of the 17th century. William settled in the western part in what is now probably West Virginia or Ohio. Tradition has it that they were both in high favor with the King of England because of a greatly prized personal service and that as a reward, he gave each of them one hundred thousand acres of land in the then new colony of Virginia. They were both possessed of vast landed estates. Both were reserve officers in the British army in the colonies. Both were British Squires and members of the House of Burgesses.
