The Reverend Joseph Hutton was a Unitarian minister. He was born in 1790 in Dublin, Ireland. He was the son of Reverend Joseph Hutton and Mary Swanwick. Joseph was baptised on 24 June 1790 at the Presbyterian Church on Eustace Street in Dublin, County Dublin, Ireland.[1]
He studied at Trinity College, College Green, Dublin, Ireland, and at the University of Glasgow, High Street, Glasgow, Scotland.
He was minister of Mill Hill Chapel, Leeds City Square, Yorkshire, England, from 1813 to 1835. He married Susan (Susannah) Grindall Holt in 1817. [citation needed]
In 1832, he published Unitarian Christianity Vindicated: in Four Letters, Addressed to the Rev. R. W. Hamilton, in Reply to his Pamphlet Denominated "The Religionists Designating Themselves Unitarians Not Entitled to the Christian Name. [2]
In 1835 he became minister of Carter Lane Chapel, Carter Lane, near St Paul's Cathedral, London, England. [citation needed]
In the 1841 census Joseph was 50 years old and lived with three of their children, Mary (20), Joseph (15) and Richard (15) at their home in St Pancras, Middlesex, England.[3] His wife Susanna (age 5) was staying with her sister (in law?) Sarah Holt (45) and their daughter Sarah Hutton (10) in Croyden, Surrey, England.[4]
In the 1851 census Joseph was 60 years old and living with his wife, two daughters, a servant and 4 visitors at his home in Twickenham, Middlesex, England.[5]
Reverend Joseph Hutton died on March 28, 1860, in Derby, Derbyshire, England, United Kingdom.[6]
