He married first on June 28, 1856 at Haverhill, Massachusetts, Mary Ann Irwin, who was born about 1834 in Swanton, ?VT, daughter of George and Ellen/Eliza Irwin. She died at Haverhill on Nov. 14, 1860 of typhoid fever. [1]
