Genealogically Defined

Elizabeth was born about 1749^[1] and baptised on the 28th October 1750 at Baldock, Hertfordshire, England, the daughter of William Izard and Grace Izard^[2].

On the 11th July 1771, Elizabeth Izard and Thomas Hilsdern, both of Letchworth, were married by banns at St. Mary, Letchworth, Hertfordshire, England. Witnessed by Thomas Black and John Kimpton (parish clerk)^[3]

She passed away aged 77 years in 1826 at the workhouse and was buried on the 20th January 1826 at St. Mary, Hitchin, Hertfordshire, England^[1].

Research Notes

There were a few Elizabeth Izards baptised in Hertfordshire, but the closest one that fits a birth year of abt. 1749 was the one baptised at Baldock (2 miles from Letchworth and 5 miles from Hitchin), although it seems unusual that none of Elizabeth's children were named William or Grace.

William Izard (bapt. 1728 at Baldock) and Grace James (bapt. 1725 at Baldock) married at Baldock in 1749. Grace Izard widow of Baldock married John Parker, widower of Letchworth at Baldock on the 11th August 1755.

As there was only one child (Elizabeth) baptised to parents William and Grace Izard, it is likely that one or both of her parents died soon after she was conceived or born. The fact that there appears to be no burial of Grace Izard suggests that she may have re-married and there is a marriage of a Grace Izard, widow of Baldock, in 1755 at Baldock, Hertfordshire to John Parker, widower of Letchworth, Hertfordshire. However no burial of William Izard could be found at Baldock from 1749-1755. There are no other baptisms from 1745-1755 at Baldock with a mother named Grace Izard who could have been the widow who married John Parker in 1755.
