Perry J. James was born in 1843 in Morgan, Ohio. He died August 29, 1863 in Lee, Iowa at age 20.

Son of Hollis James (1793–1846) and Sarah Ann Lowe (1794–1881).

1850 United States Census, Olive Township, Morgan, Ohio: Sarah James is head of household, age 50, with children William age 14, John age 12, Susanna age 11, Lemuel age 8, and Perry age 7.

1860 United States Census, Centre Township, Noble, Ohio: Sarah James is head of household, age 63, with sons Lemuel, a farmhand age 17, and Perry, a farmhand age 16.
