Catherine was born in 1888. She is the daughter of Richard Jesson and Catherine McKenna. Her birth certificate records the date as 14 October, however later records have given the date as both 8 October and 27 October [1].
In 1910 Katie married Charles Rafferty. They had four children: Catherine and Jane both died as infants, Charles and John survived to migrate to Melbourne with their mother. Katie's husband died in Dieppe, France in early 1919, it is assumed from disease since this is after the conclusion of hostilities.
Katie migrated to Australia with her two young sons in 1926 [2], following her brother Richard who had migrated in 1924.
Young Charles died in 1928 at just 13 years of age [3]. Catherine initially lived in Yarraville, later relocating to Brighton [4].
In 1943 she married William Thomas [5]. She passed away in 1949 [6].
I remember meeting her son John Rafferty before his death in 2006. [7]
