Biography

Jakob Jetmundsen Maude was baptized on 13 October 1782 in Hjørundfjord, Norway (present day Ørsta, Møre og Romsdal), the son of Jetmund Jonsen and Anne Ingebrigtsdatter.^[1]

In the 1801 census, Jakob was 19 years old and lived at Maude farm with his parents and 2 of his siblings.^[2]

On June 10, 1807 Jakob bought property at Stennes in Hjørundfjord from Gunder Jetmundsson Veibust,^[3][4]

He married his wife Anna Olsdatter Øye (1782 - 1844) on July 12, 1807 in Hjørundfjord when he was 24 years old.^[5] They had 6 children together, 4 who lived to adulthood:

1. Bernt Jakobsen (1807 - 1877), took over the farm at Stennes
2. Anne Ingeborg Jakobsdatter (1810 - 1891), to Norang
3. Jetmund Jakobsen (1814 - 1885), to Lida
4. Olena Jakobsdatter (1817 - 1817)
5. Ole Jakobsen (1819 - 1822)
6. Thore Jakobsen (1822 - 1890), to Fremmerlid in Volda

Jakob died suddenly on November 15, 1830 in Hjørundfjord at the age of 48.^[6] His cause of death was an accident while working: he fell and slid while he was chopping and burning algae or weeds, he couldn't hold on to anything and hit a rock. The burial record listed his occupation as farmer.

His wife and children were named in his probate record dated January 11, 1831: Anna Olsdatter, Bernt Jacobsen (married), Jetmund Jacobsen age 16, Thore Jacobsen age 9, and Anne Ingebor Jacobsdatter married to Peder Johansen Norang.^[7]
