Andrew W. Johnson was an Amercian soldier in the Union Army during the Civil War. For his gallant conduct at the Siege of Vicksburg, Ward was awarded the Medal of Honor
Rank and Organization: Private, Company G, 116th Illinois Infantry. Place and Date: At Vicksburg, Mississippi, 22 May 1863. Entered Service At: Assumption, Ill. Birth: Delaware County, Ohio. Date of Issue: 9 August 1894.

Andrew was born in 1834. He passed away in 1912. Age 79
Andrew Johnson, age 26, was 5 foot 8 inches tall with dark hair, blue eyes and a fair complexion. He was married and a farmer residing in Assumption, Christian County, Ill. He was born at Delaware County, Ohio. On August 14, 1862, Johnson enlisted in the 116th Regiment, Illinois Infantry. On September 6, 1862, Johnson mustered in as a Private in Company G. [1]
On May 22, 1863, at the Siege of Vicksburg, Sprague was one of a storming party. The storming party, known as "Forlorn Hope," was a group who volunteered to attack the enemy fortifications. The storming party had heavy casualties. [2]
For his gallant action at the Siege of Vicksburg, Andrew Johnson was awarded the Medal of Honor. [3][4]
