Clifford was born in Inverell, New South Wales in 1897.[1] He is the son of John Johnston and Annie Hume.
Clifford H. Johnston (1897-) married Winifred (Taylor) Johnston (abt.1903-) in 1931 at the Anglican Church at Lavender Bay, North Sydney, New South Wales. Winifred was 28 years and Clifford was 34 years. Clifford was employed as a Caretaker at the time of the marriage.[2][3]
