Biography

Susan Jones was born on 11 Dec 1803 [1] in Pennsylvania. Around 1821 she married Naugle Kephart. Together they had the following ten children: [2]

  1. Catherine A. (Kephart) McElhany.
  2. Mary Ann (Kephart) Rebman.
  3. Henry Kephart.
  4. Elizabeth (Kephart) Glew.
  5. Margaret P. (Kephart) Shirk.
  6. Sarah Hammond (Kephart) Allen.
  7. Milton Wilson Kephart.
  8. Alfred Brunson Kephart.
  9. Lavinia (Kephart) McIntosh.
  10. Emma Francis (Kephart) Meyers.

Susan passed away on 8 Mar 1885 [3] in Concord Township, Dubuque County, Iowa and was buried beside her husband at the Cottage Hill Cemetery.

Research Notes

The 1850, 1860, 1870, and 1880 US Censuses all state that she was born in Pennsylvania. Curiously the Kephart Family History states that she was born in Wales. That is most likely incorrect.

The marriage date estimate is based on the birth date of their oldest daughter, Catherine, who was born in 1822.
