Biography

Mary Judd was born about 1658 to William and Mary Steele Judd.^[1] Mary was baptized along with her sister Elizabeth in July of 1660.^[2]Mary was married in Nov of 1679 to Abel Janes in Northampton, Hampshire, Massachusetts.^[3]Mary and Abel moved their family to Lebanon, New London, Connecticut, and lived the rest of their lives there. Abel died 18 Dec 1718, and Mary died 24 Apr 1735.^[4]

"William Judd, eldest son of Deac. Thomas Judd, married Mary Steele, daughter of John Steele, of Farmington, March 30, 1658.

Children. The births are not recorded, and only four baptisms, viz., Mary and Elizabeth, July 22, 1660, Thomas, Oct. 13, 1662, William, January 8, 1665. Elizabeth and William died young. The names and ages of the children, as returned with the inventory, Nov. 1690, were : — Mary, aged 32, Thomas, 27, John, 23, Rachel, 20, Samuel, 17, Daniel, 15, Elizabeth, 12. According to this probate record [and including the two deceased children], the years of their birth were nearly as follows : —

1. Mary, born 1658. Married Abel Janes of Northampton, Nov. 14, 1679. Removed to Lebanon, Conn., with several children.
2. Elizabeth, born 1659, died about 1672.
3. Thomas, born 1663.
4. William, born Dec 1664. Died young.
5. John, born 1667.
6. Rachel, born 1670. Died unmarried 1703. Gave her property to her relatives by will.
7. Samuel, born 1673.
8. Daniel, born 1675.
9. Elizabeth, born 1678. Was living 1718, unmarried."^[5]
