Biography

Verna Agnes Keiner was born in Pond Hill, Conyngham Township, Luzerne, Pennsylvania, on 11 Apr 1901. She was the daughter of Tillie Cragle and Wesley Keiner.^[1] She married Fred Seward in Shickshinny, Luzerne, Pennsylvania, on 30 Jul 1919.^[2] Verna and Fred had ten children:

• Elizabeth Ruth Seward

• Harold William Seward
• Ray L. Seward
• Donald Seward

Verna lived in Shickshinny with her husband and their first son, George in 1920.^[3] In 1930 she and Fred owned a home in Conyngham Township, Luzerne, Pennsylvania, near her widowed sister, Bertha Kresge. Six of their seven young children are listed on the census record as living with them, though all seven are living at the time.^[4] In 1940, Verna, Fred, and eight of their children lived on Route 40026 in Slocum Township, Luzerne, Pennsylvania. It is assumed that Julia and Donald died before the census. Fred's widowed father, George Seward, also lived with them.^[5]

Verna Seward died in Berwick Hospital, Berwick, Columbia, Pennsylvania, on 4 Jun 1978.^[6][7] She was buried on 7 Jun 1978 in Pond Hill Cemetery, Conyngham Township, Luzerne, Pennsylvania.^[8]
