Obituary as found in Wonewoc Reporter Alice Kingsley Searles Mrs. Alice Searles, well-known resident of Summit, and a correspondent for the Wonewoc Reporter for about 40 years, died at her home last Tuesday after a long illness. The obituary follows: Alice Kingsley Searles was born on a farm in Summit on January 19, 1868. On October 10,1889 she was united in marriage to John Searles of Summit, who preceded her in death five years ago last February. She passed away at her home in Summit on September 3, 1946 at the age of 78 years, 7 months, and 14 days. She was always ready to help and carry on the work in and out of the community. Mrs. Searlesis survived by three daughters, Mattie, Mrs.Herman Sonnenberg of Summit;Mildred, Mrs. Emil Jurkowski of Mauston; and Erma, Mrs. Robert Kupsick of Summit; an adopted daughter, Gladys, Mrs. Arthur Zietlow of Summit; and adopted som, George of Milwaukee; twelve grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and an adopted daughter, Ethel, Mrs. Leo Webster, who preceded her in death. She is also survived by one sister Louise, Mrs. Alfred Watson of Madison; two brothers, Grover Kingsley of Madison and Edward Kingsley of Wonewoc. Four sisters and two brothers preceded her in death. Mrs. Searles was loved and looked up to by a great many friends and relatives. She was always kind and helpful and always firm in her beliefs for the forwardness of her community. Her work has been appreciated by many, who grieve her passing. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at 1:30 from the home in Summit and at 2 o’clock from the Methodist church in Wonewoc. Rev. L. K. Mader officiating. Burial was in Pine Eden cemetery. [1]
