Henry Kneller was born on 17 Jan 1857 in Selborne, Hampshire, England (Parents: James Neller and Eliza Kemp). He died on 06 May 1940 in Beckenham, Kent, England. When he was 25, he married Olive Pink,daughter of Thomas Howick Pink and Harriet Porter, on 25 Nov 1882 in Croydon, Surrey, England.

Henry was baptized on 01 Mar 1857 in Selborne, Hampshire, England. He lived in Selbourne, Hampshire, England with his parents in 1861 (Age: 4) and in 1871 (Age: 14). After he married he moved to Lewisham, Sydenham Hill, London and was there in 1891 (Age: 34). He lived in Beckenham, Kent, England in 1901 (Age: 44) and in Catford, London, England on 02 Apr 1911 (Age: 54). His wife Olive passed away in January 1922 in Bromley, Kent, at the age of 62. They had been married 39 years. By 1939 he was an Old Age Pensioner living in Beckenham, Kent, England (Age: 82). His estate was probated on 01 Jul 1940 in London, England.

The first time that Henry was reported in a census, 1861, he was aged 4, a scholar living with his parents James Neller (40), an Agricultural Labourer, and Eliza at Selborne St, Selborne, Hampshire. Also living with them were is sisters Mary Ann (7) and Priscilla (6 months). [4]

In 1871 Henry was living with his parents James Neller (40), an Agricultural Labourer, and Eliza (36) at Norton Farm , Selborne, Hampshire, with his siblings. He was also an Agricultural Labourer and aged 14. The siblings living with him were Emma (11), James (8), George (6). Alfred (4) and John Hori (1). [5]

Marriage

Henry, aged 25 and a bachelor living at Beckenham, married Olive Pink (23) after calling Banns on 25 Nov 1882 at St Peter's, Croydon, Surrey, England. Henry was a Porter and his father, James Kneller, was a Labourer. Olive was a spinster living at Sussex Rd, Croydon and her father, Thomas Pink, a Gardener. [6]

At the time of the census in 1891 Henry was living at 22 Stanton Square, Sydenham Hill, Lewisham, London, was aged about 34, a Railway Porter and head of his household comprising his wife Olive (32), children Harry James (7), Fanny Gertrude (5), Florence A (4), Alfred William (3) and Elsie Jane (7 months) and brother Alfred (23), a Platelayer. Residence 1901

By 1901 Henry was living at 9 Thesiger Rd, Beckenham, England as household head, aged 44 and still a Railway Porter with wife Olive (42) and children Harry James (17), now a case maker, Florence A (14), Alfred William (13), Minnie Elizabeth (5) and Leonard W (1 month). By then daughter Elsie Jane had died. [8]

Residence 1911

In 1911 Henry was aged 54 and living at 78 Doggett Rd, Catford, a district of south east London, working as a Nightwatchman in South East Catford. He had reverted to spelling his family surname as Neller. By then most of his family had left home, his household comprising only himself as head, his wife Olive (53) and son Leonard (10) at school living in a 3 bedroom apartment (2 bedrooms and a kitchen). Residence 1939

At the time that the 1939 Register was prepared, just before the 2nd World War, Henry was aged 81 and living at 117 Crampton Rd, Beckenham, Kent, England, with a George and Grace Monk and recorded as an Old Age Pensioner ex Railway Porter. [2]

Death

At the time of his death aged 83 on 6 May 1940 Henry was living at 37 Tennyson Rd, Penge, Kent, south east London and died at Farnborough Hospital, Farnborough, Bromley, Kent. His death was registered at Bromley, Kent, England during Apr - Jun 1940. He was buried [9] on 10 May 1940 adjacent to his wife Olive at Beckenham Cemetery, Elmers End Road, Beckenham, Kent, England Grave No 8856, Plot T. 7 Facing North, Row 3. [10] [11]

Probate

His will was probated on 1 Jul 1940, the effects totalling £630 1s 3d to Florence Ada Johnson, wife of Henry Edwin Johnson. [11]
