Norman Leslie Knight was born on 3 January 1890 in Palmerston North, Manawatu-Wanganui, New Zealand, son of John Knight (1858– ) and Emily Fuller (1859–1940).[1]

Norman was killed in action on 19 August 1917 in France, aged 27.[3][4] He was buried in Pont d'Achelles Military Cemetery, Nieppe, Departement du Nord, Nord-Pas-de-Calais, France (plot: II.[5]
Norman's estate passed probate in 1917 in Auckland, Auckland, New Zealand.[6]
His obituary was recorded in the Auckland Weekly News on 20 September 1917 on page 45 and reads
Driver Norman Leslie Knight, of the Artillery, killed in action, was the only son of Mr. J. Knight, of St. John’s Avenue, Epsom, and late of Woodside, Hamilton. He was born at Palmerston North, and educated at Hamilton and St. John’s Collegiate School, Onehunga. After leaving school he was two years in the Bank of Australasia, Hamilton, afterwards taking up a sheep and cattle station at Whangarei, where he remained until he enlisted, in May, 1916. He was 27 years of age. (Auckland Weekly News, 20 September 1917, p. 45)[2]
