Biography
Eva was born in 1741. She was the daughter of Peter Knopp and Sophia Gaendling.
22 April 1741. Eva Catherine was christened at the Christ Little Tulpehocken Church.[1] Sponsors were Michaesl Busch & wife.
She is named in the 1777 will of her father; however, her inheritance is allocated to one of her sons, suggesting that Eva Catherine was dead by 1777. NOTE: Could Eva have been the first wife of Hermanus Schell--and after Eva died, Hermanus remarried to her sister Elizabeth?
Research Notes
The will of Hermanus Schell (died 1776) states that his wife was Elizabeth Knopp--NOT Eva Catherina Kopp. Primary sources are lacking for the marriage, which, based on the ages of the children named in the will, should have occurred about 1760. The rootsweb secondary source confirms that the sister who married Hermanus Schell was Elizabeth Knopp. After Hermanus died, did Elizabeth remarried to Abraham Hupp (1775-1829) or Michael Yeich, as is cited in numerous secondary sources without evidence? Hermanus has been disconnected as the husband of Eva Catherine Knopp (this profile). It is not known who she married--indeed--could she have been the first wife of Hermanus Schell?
