Raymond Kopa was a French professional footballer. Often considered one of the best players of his generation, he was integral to the France national team of the 1950s. He was part of the legendary Real Madrid team of the 1950s, winning three European Cups. In 1970, he became the first football player to receive the Légion d'honneur.
He was the son of François (Franz) Kopaszewski, a coal miner, and Hélène Wlodarczyk, both immigrants from Poland.[1].
