When Marcelle Francois Labrie was born on May 26, 1889, in Frankfort, South Dakota, his father, George, was 32 and his mother, Celina, was 38. He had five brothers and one sister. According to his draft registration, he was feeble-minded. But his neighbor Ella LaChance said he was simple, and that was more accurate. He worked as a laborer for his father and had a pew in the Catholic church with his family. He died on December 10, 1978, in Redfield, South Dakota, at the age of 89, and was buried in Turton, South Dakota. Find A Grave: Memorial #174598381
Excerpt from Turton Centennial Book: "Marcelle Francois LaBrie was born on May 26, 1889 at Frankfort, the son of George and Celina (Breault) LaBrie.
His first years were spent on a fa rm southwest of Turton and then moved into town in 1904 with his parents and brothers. Theophile, Eddie, Leon and Tancred LaBrie, Charles and Aldea Poirier. Here he grew to manhood doing odd jobs for family and friends. Following the death of his parents, he lived with his half-siste r and husband, Philip and Aldea Fortin . He later lived with a niece, Celia (Poirier) F o rtin and then with his brother and wife, Leon and Annie LaBrie. He was always active and would shovel snow, rake yards,mow grass and haul mail for the neighbors. He was always happy about greeting neighbors and friends and former residents upon their return . He passed away on December 10,1978 at the age of 89 and is buried at Turton.[1][2][3][4][5]
