His headstone shows birth and death dates different from above. The dates from the obituary have been used as they are contemporary dates, whereas the headstone was likely erected somewhat later. Either set of dates may be correct.

He was born in Dinwiddie County, Virginia, on 3 Feb 1778. He removed to Georgia at a very early age, perhaps on his own, perhaps with his parents or other relatives. He and Temperance Jones were married in Georgia prior to 1799 based on the birth date of their first known child.

The "Account of Sales" filed in the probate of the estate of John Respess shows that Nicholas was in Georgia prior to 18 Oct 1800 as he is listed among those who bought property from the estate.[2]

In 1807, he was living in Hancock County, Georgia, was at least 21 years old, was married, and had been living in Georgia for at least 3 years when he drew 2 lots in Capt. Waller's District in the 1807 Land Lottery (under the law of 1806).[3]

The residents of Hancock County were entitled to draw "Okmulgee lands," which was in sparsely populated Baldwin County. As a result of the lottery, Baldwin was partitioned into several new counties in 1807, one of which was Randolph County. In 1812, Randolph County was renamed Jasper County, and that is where Nicholas Lamb appears in the 1830 census.[4]

Sometime after 1830, Nicholas Lamb and his family were briefly in Chambers County, Alabama. Chambers County was likely a temporary stopover as he was only resident there long enough to buy 40 acres of government land in Randolph County, which he bought on 01 Aug 1838.[5]

In the 1840 census he was living on the land he purchased in Randolph County, Alabama.[6]

By the mid-1840s, some of his children, already middle aged, were moving on to Mississippi seeking land and opportunity for themselves. Nicholas and Temperance, now approaching 70 years of age, followed them there, locating in that part of Choctaw County that would be partitioned into Webster County in 1874.[7]

It is in Choctaw County that Nicholas and Temperance are recorded in the 1850 US Census.[8]

Nicholas died on 19 May 1861 and is buried in the Lamb Cemetery at Eupora, Webster County, Mississippi. [9]
