Biography
Lewis Marshall Lavinder was born September 26, 1853, in Rocky Mounty, Franklin county, Virginia, a son of George W. Lavinder and Sarah Ann Stegall. [1] Lewis is found at the age of six, on the United States Census of 1860, living with his parents in the South West District of Franklin county, Virginia. [2]
George William Lavinder died in 1869, and Lewis is found at the age of seventeen on the 1870 census, living with his mother, "Sally" age 36. [3] On December 20, 1877, in Franklin county, Virginia, 24 year old Lewis married 16 year old Emma J. Goode, a daughter of Jacob and Mary A. Goode. [4]
On January 30, 1879, Lewis and his wife become the parents of a son, William A. Lavinder. [5] Their baby died March 17, 1879. [6] Lewis and Emma are found on the Census of 1880, living in Brown Hill, Franklin county, Virginia, with their second newborn son, Alfred D. Lavinder. [7]
By 1900, Lewis and Emma have seven children living in the home: Victoria E., Nevada P., George W., Thetta W., Louis R., Lilly M. and Jacob C. Lavinder. [8]
Lewis died November 5, 1946, at the age of 93, in Oak Hill, Fayette county, West Virginia. Lewis is buried in the Highlawn Memorial Park. His Find A Grave memorial is connected to his wife's and also eight of his children. There is also an image of his death memorial and certificate. [9]
