Birth and Baptism

Sarah Sabina Lawn was born on the 11 November 1887 [3] [4] in Bermondsey, Surrey, England [5]. She was baptised on the 4 December 1887 in Saint Mary Magdalene, Bermondsey, Surrey, England. Her parents were William Lorn and Sarah. The abode was 34, Edward Street and the trade was ‘General Dealer’. [6]
Her birth was registered in Saint Olave Southwark, Surrey, England in the fourth quarter of 1887. Her name was Sarah Sabina LAWN. The mother's maiden name in the birth index was PRYOR. [4]

Early Years

Sarah was called Emma LORNE in 1891. She was three years old. Her family lived at 34 Edward Street, Bermondsey, Surrey, England. Bermondsey was her birthplace. Her father, William LORNE was employed as a fish curer. He was 41 and his birthplace was Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, England. William’s wife Sarah was 38 and born in Hounslow. There were five siblings; Priscilla LORNE, 18, James LORNE, 13, John LORNE, 8, Harry LORNE, 4 and Alice LORNE, 1. Priscilla and James were born in Chatham, Kent England. The others were born in Bermondsey. [1]
In 1901, Sarah’s name was Surberry LORNE. She was 12 and her birthplace was ‘Bermondsey London’. The letter ‘B’ was entered for her occupation. This might have been an error because the person on the next line was a bricklayer. For some reason her details were entered after her younger sister Alice, who was 10. Her father, William LORNE was employed as a fishmonger. He was 52 and his birthplace was ‘Yarmouth’. William’s wife Sarah was 50 and born in ‘Stepney, London’. There were three siblings; John LORNE, 18, Harry LORNE, 16, and Alice LORNE, 10. They were all born in ‘Bermondsey London’. The family lived at 43, Salisbury Road. [2]

First Marriage

On the 25 December 1908, Sarah married William GANNEY after banns, at Christ Church, in the parish of Christ Church West Green, in the county of Middlesex, England. Sarah was 21 and lived at 4 Avondale Road. Her father William LORNE (deceased) was a Fishmonger. Her husband, William GANNEY was 24. He was a frame maker and lived at 66 Glenwood Road. His father was John GANNEY also a frame maker. The witnesses were John LORNE and Alice LORNE, Sarah’s brother and sister. [7]
The marriage was registered in Edmonton, Middlesex, England in the fourth quarter of 1908. [8]

Married Life

In 1911, Sarah was had been married to her husband William GANNEY for two years. She was 23 and her birthplace was London, Bermondsey. William was head of the household. He was 26 and was working as an oval picture frame maker. William was born in ‘London Islington’. They had one son Henry William GANNEY who was 1 and also born in Islington. The family lived in a two room dwelling at 87 Duncombe Road, Upper Holloway, Islington, London, England. [5].

Sarah and William had two children;
  1. Henry William GANNEY born in 28 September 1909 [3] in Islington, London, England [5].
  2. Ellen Ivy GANNEY born in 1911. Her birth was registered in Islington. Her mother's maiden name was LORNE. [9]

Widowhood

On the 15 May 1915, William GANNEY passed away.

Second Marriage

In the autumn or winter of 1917, Sarah married Horace H LOVELL. The marriage was registered in Lambeth, Surrey, England in the fourth quarter of 1917. [10]. Horace's full name was Horace Harold LOVELL.

Lovell Children

Sarah and Horace had at least four children;
  1. Horace Harold LOVELL born before July 1921. His birth was registered in the second quarter of 1921 in Lambeth, Surrey, England. [11]
  2. Hilda Sabina LOVELL born before October 1918. Her birth was registered in the third quarter of 1918 in Lambeth, Surrey, England. [12]
  3. Evelyn M LOVELL born before October 1926. Her birth was registered in the third quarter of 1926 in Lambeth, Surrey, England. [13]
  4. Jean R LOVELL born before January 1930. Her birth was registered in the fourth quarter of 1929 in Lambeth, Surrey, England.[14]

Life in Lambeth

Sarah and Horace lived at 21 Fairbairn Road, in the Metropolitan Borough of Lambeth in 1939. Horace H LOVELL was born on the 19 February 1887 and was a General Labourer. Sarah’s birthdate was the 9 November 1887. She was doing unpaid domestic duties. [3]
At the same address, but in a separate household was Sarah’s son from her first marriage, Henry W GANNEY. He was born on the 28 September 1909. He was married and a Restaurant Manager. He lived with Annie E GANNEY who was also married. She was born on the 22 April 1914 and was doing unpaid domestic duties. [3]

Final Years

Sarah passed away in 1976. Her death was registered in Bromley, Kent, England in the second quarter of 1976. Her date of birth was recorded as the 11 November 1885. [15]
