Biography

Emma Lawrence was born in 1842 and christened on 11 Dec 1842 at Ware, Hertfordshire, England. She was the daughter of James Lawrence and Mary Hilton.[1][2]

Emma's mother Mary died in 1850.

In the 1851 census Emma was age 10? living in Ware, Hertfordshire with her sisters Ellen Lawrence (22?), Cecilia Lawrence (13) and brothers Thomas Lawrence (19), Henry Lawrence (17?), Walter Lawrence (15), George Lawrence (7), Charles Lawrence (2).[3] Their father was in Hertford Gaol.

In the 1861 census Emma was age 19 living at Fore Street, Hertford, Hertfordshire as a cook in the household of Samuel Halestrap.[4]

Emma married Thomas Crane on 24 Nov 1862 at All Saints And Saint John, Hertford.[5][6]

In the 1871 census Emma was age 28 living at Ware, Hertfordshire with her husband Thomas Crane (31), daughters Cecilia Crane (7), Sarah A Crane (2), sons Thomas Crane (5), Herbert C Crane (0).[7]

In the 1881 census Emma was age 38 living at Baldock Street, Ware, Hertfordshire with her husband Thomas Crane (41), daughter Cecilia Crane (17), sons Thomas Crane (15), Herbert C Crane (10), Walter L Crane (7), Sidney G Crane (5), Albert H Crane (2).[8]

In the 1891 census Emma was age 49 living at Baldock Street, Ware, Hertfordshire with her husband Thomas Crane (51), sons Walter L Crane (17), Sidney G Crane (15), Albert H Crane (13).[9]

In the 1901 census Emma was age 57 living at Baldock Street, Ware, Hertfordshire with her husband Thomas Crane (61), son Sidney G Crane (23).[10]

In the 1911 census Emma was age 68 living at Ware, Hertfordshire with her husband Thomas Crane (71), son Herbert C Crane (40).[11]

Emma died in 1925 age 82 at Ware, Hertfordshire. She was buried on 7 Apr 1925 at St Mary the Virgin, Ware.[12][13]
