Biography

Robert was born about 1802/3 in Little Carlton, Lincolnshire, England (Little or South Carlton is part of South Muskham). In the 1851 census his birthplace is Carlton, Nottinghamshire. In 1861 as Little Carlton, Nottinghamshire.

Robert was baptised in Newark, Nottinghamshire, the son of Robert and Elizabeth Lawson at Christ Church, a subsiduary church of St Marys, Newark ^[1].

0n 15 Jan 1828 Robert married Jane Huskinson at Orston, Nottinghamshire^[2].

In 1841 Robert (40-44) and his wife Jane (61, or possibly 51 - the first figure is not clear) were living with children George (12) and Henry (9) and possible sister Mary Lawson (30-34 in Walkers Row, Farndon in the Newark district. All were born in Nottinghamshire ^[3].

In 1851, aged 48 Robert was living with his wife Jane (60. born Barnston, Nottinghamshire), and their granddaughter, Jane Lamb, who was six, and is recorded as being born in France. They were living in Farndon, Nottinghamshire, Robert was an agricultural labourer ^[4].

In 1861, he was 56, living with his wife Jane (70, born Langar, Leicestershire - the parish is Langar cum Barnstone) and son, George (32, born Farndon), in Farndon. Robert is described as a Farm Labourer, his unmarried son as a wheelwright ^[5].

In 1871, he was 64, still an Agricultural labouer, living with his wife Jane (82, born Barnston) in Farndon^[6].

In 1891 Robert, aged 88, was a widower, still living in Farndon ^[7]

Robert died, aged 92, and his death was registered in the Newark Registration District in the December quarter of 1894 ^[8]

Research notes

Robert may have been baptised in Newark, Nottinghamshire 17 August 1802 ^[9] On FreeREG, there appear to be two duplicate records, one for Christ Church, Newark, and one for St Mary's Newark.

He is not recorded in the 1881 census on FreeCEN or Family Search (3/11/2018).
