Biography
William was born about 1725 - I have found no source that shows he was born in Ireland.
Research Note: His wife is on the 1802 census with daughter Honor Grant - was she just visiting or was she a widow. She is no longer there in 1803, so did she die or return home to her husband in Elizabethtown????
That your petitioner joined the Royal Standard in America in the year 1781. Together with his family, one whom served as a Private Soldier in a Corps called Loyal Rangers until the reduction in 1783. Your petitioner from infirmities was rendered uncapable of serving in that capacity, having suffered greatly from his Loyalty and attachment to the British Government, begs he may be indulged with 200 acres of land more for himself, and 200 acres for his son deceased, in addition to 300 acres which he has already received. Also the residue of lands for his family. Consisting of a wife and eight children, he having received only 200 acres.

Affidavit: I do hereby certify that in the year 1781 William Leahy Senior UE of Elizabethtown, did with his wife and seven children arrive in St Johns, in the province of Quebec. Again, that the said Wm Leahy had a child born to him in the said Province. 8th May 1798, Alex Campbell J.P.
