Birth: May 17, 1804 Death: Mar. 29, 1864 John's untimely death occurred while defending his property. To protect his money from Union bushwhackers and Confederate guerillas, he buried his money in two copper pots. On March 29, 1864, the bushwackers, aided by a neighbor, demanded John to tell them where his money was hidden and threatened to kill him. He was shot by the neighbor's 15 year-old son and later died in the arms of his daughter, Sarah. No one knows if John's money was ever found.
