William was born in 1843. He was the son of Peter Leezer and Eliza Richey.
Though many records list that he served in Co. E of the 3rd Regiment,Pennsylvania Cavalry during the War of the Rebellion, he actually served in Co. E of the 13th Regiment,Pennsylvania Cavalry. He was captured at White Sulpher Springs, near Warrenton, Virginia on October 12th 1863. Sent to the infamous Andersonville Prison Camp he would die there of dysentery on the 20th of May 1864.
