Robert George Leinroth was born on 26 March 1854 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the first child of Georg Leinroth and his wife Christiana Ruoff . He was baptized on 26 Mar 1865 in St. Michael's and Zion Church in Philadelphia.[1]
According to the 1870 census, Robert and his brother Harry were apprenticed to a lithographer. Robert made had a career in lithography, working at Ketterlinus Printing House in Philadelphia. Founded in 1840, Ketterlinus Printing was the first company to do industrial color printing for business and continued to work with advanced equipment and processes.[2]
Robert married Matilda Ringe (called "Tillie") on 9 September 1880 in Philadelphia.[3] They had three children: Robert Clarence, Jean Paul, and Eugene Alfred. Tillie died of leukemia in 1907.[4] Robert survived her by 35 years, dying on 8 December 1943 of heart failure at his home in Philadelphia.[5]
