Johann (also known as John) was born in Käfertal, Baden-Würtemburg, Germany on 8 OCT 1842.[1]

Johann arrived in Sydney on 22nd March 1853. He was 11yrs old. [2]

Johann married Jane Niland 29 Mar 1869 in Grafton. [3]

John died in 1934. [4]

He was buried on his property on 3 Jan 1934 at "Mossgrove", Jackadgery, NSW.

John's (Johann's) birth name, like all those Lollbacks born in Germany before emigrating was actually spelt ~ Löllbach ~ with the umlaut over the 'o'. It was also spelt this way for many of the first generation in Australia. His father Jacob's grave shows this spelling. There are at least 5 different variations of the spelling in the NSW BDM records, some no doubt associated with the literacy levels of various parties and also misunderstanding of the foreign pronunciation/spelling by government clerks etc. John's marriage and death records show him as John Lollback but his birth record is Johann Löllbach. I think it's much easier for researchers if just the two name forms are kept...the original German spelling (Löllbach) and the accepted anglicised spelling (Lollback). It would be useful for the numerous variations to be listed in a comments section.

Lollback-20 and Lellback-1 appear to represent the same person because: The wife and child / children match. There are various spellings of the surname - his parents as Lellbach and he had Lollback on his marriage certificate. I am happy that Johann Lollback be used, but would like to be on the trusted list.
