Biography
Francois Lemelle is a part of US Black heritage.
Native of Louisiana
François Donato Lemelle, son of Francois Narcisse Lemelle and Marie Denise Donato, was born free on 10 January 1807 in Louisiana. He was baptized on 24 November 1809 at St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas, Louisiana.[1]
He married Marie Louise Frilot, his first cousin and daughter of Louis Hilaire Frilot and Marie Louise Bello, on 11 February 1850; the marriage was recorded at St. Landry Catholic Church.[2]
He was a planter when he and his wife appeared on the census of 10 October 1850 in St. Landry Parish, Louisiana.[3] He appeared on the census of 14 June 1880 at Opelousas, St. Landry Parish, Louisiana.[4]
