Biography

Deborah Leonard was born on 1 October 1663 to John and Sarah (Heald) Leonard in Springfield, Massachusetts Bay Colony.^[1]

Deborah eloped to Rhode Island with Daniel Denton, son of Daniel and Abigail (Stevenson) Denton, her sister Hannah's step-son. On 27 September 1681, they were presented for their action in Springfield, Massachusetts, and sentenced to a fine of £5 "or else within a fortnights time to make publique confession before ye Church of Springfield to ye satisfaction in ye judgement of Charity."^[2]

They may have remained in Springfield for some time, but returned to Daniel's native Jamaica, Long Island.

Deborah was alive as late as 8 April 1718, when she received a distribution of her share of her mother's widow's third of her father's estate.^[5]

Her husband Gabriel died before 3 April 1732, when letters of administration on his estate were granted to Gabriel, Jr.^[6]
