John, or Giovanni Leone is born around 1878 in Corleone, the son of Giovanni Leone and Biagia Pomara.
Giovanni marries Giovanna Zabbia, daughter of Giuseppe Zabbia and Maria Felicia Lorello, on 16 January 1898 in Corleone.[1]
Giovanni and Giovanna have five known children: Bessie (probably Biagia, c. 1900), Mary (probably Maria Felicia, c. 1901), Lucia/Lucy (c. 1906), Josie (possibly Giuseppa, c. 1907), and John (probably Giovanni, c. 1909).
Open issue: According to the 1910 census, the family immigrates in 1904, but Mary, born around 1901, is born in New York.
In the 1910 federal census of Manhattan, Ward 12, taken 26 April, John Leone heads a household on East 106th St. He is a laborer at odd jobs.
John Leone, 32 (b. 1878), his wife of 12 years (m. 1898) Jennie, 32 (b. 1878), and children Bessie, 10 (b. 1900), Mary, 9 (b. 1901), Lucy, 4 (b. 1906), Josie, 3 (b. 1907), and John, six months (b. Oct/Nov 1909). Jennie has had 5 children, all living. John, Jennie, and Bessie were born in Italy and immigrated in 1904. The younger children were born in New York. [2]
Lucia marries Salvatore Spatafora on 1 September 1926 in New York City.[3] Salvatore's parents are from different comuni in Palermo province.
