When Lewis was only a few months old, his family moved to Montreal, Canada East, where his father, a member of the Royal Canadian Rifle Regiment of the British Army, was stationed.[2]
In the spring of 1904, Lewis, his son John, and his brothers-in-law, Ambrose Shuttleworth and Syd Shuttleworth, took two train carloads of settler's effects to Saskatoon, Northwest Territories. After several wagon trips between their homestead near Ardath and Saskatoon, everything was moved and building could begin.
A house and barn were built of lumber and sod. The rest of the family moved to the homestead in July of 1904.
Lewis, Elizabeth, and some of their children, moved to Nelson, British Columbia.
Lewis died at Nelson on 28 November 1942[4] and was buried in Nelson Memorial Park.[5]
