Carl Lester, son of Clarence E. and Jennie E. Lester, was born October 6, 1888, in Nebraska.[1]
In 1900 the family lived in Summers, Thomas County, Kansas. Clarence, who had been born in Colorado, was a farmer. Carl's parents had been married sixteen years and had eight children. Carl is reported to have been born in Kansas, but his draft registration shows Nebraska.[2]
By 1910 the Lester family had moved to Spring Creek, Washington. Carl was not living with his family. There is a Carl Lester in Whatcom County, Washington that might be the right Carl but the census record has been crossed out and information is very questionable.[3]
In June of 1917, Carl registered for the draft, at the time, he was working for himself as a farmer in Centerville, Kickitat County, Washington.[1]
Sometime, probably late 1917, Carl entered the US Army. As Carl died in Vancouver, it is most likely he was at Vancouver Barracks, the WWI name for Fort Vancouver.
Carl died on March 15, 1918 at Vancouver, Clark County, Washington.[4] and was buried at IOOF Mountain View Cemetery, Goldendale. His memorial has a photo. Other family member burials are also in this cemetery.[5]
The photo included with this profile is his memorial plaque at Maryhill_Stonehenge.
