Biography
Reuben Lewis was born in Dunstable, Middlesex, Massachusetts on June 13, 1763 to Sarah Bancroft.[1] I have only seen a father listed for Reuben twice: in many public ancestry.com trees his father is listed as being the husband of Sarah Bancroft, James Robertson. In Reuben's death record his parents are listed as Reuben Lewis and Sarah B Lewis.[2] I did find a book on the genealogy of the Bancroft family and found Sarah, but it only stated that Reuben Lewis was her son, and she was "afterwards" the wife of James Robertson. I cannot find that source now. If I only knew then what I know now about citing sources, I'd be much happier.
On the 31st of May in 1787 in Chesterfield, Cheshire, New Hampshire,[3] Reuben married Mary Fisk, the daughter of William Fiske and Jemima Adams. Together they had 7 children, Laban being the eldest.
Reuben died first on the 5th of December in 1845, in Shelburn, Massachusetts.[2] He is buried in Hill Cemetery in Shelburn, Massachusetts.[4] His beloved Mary followed in 1848.

This Reuben Lewis is NOT the son of Lieut. Reuben Lewis-2798. Lieut. Reuben Lewis had two sons with wife Abial Shed-217 named Reuben. One died in infancy (1772-1773), the other childhood (1774-1777). This Reuben Lewis' mother is likely Sarah (Bancroft), but has a father other than Reuben Lewis-2798 and therefore will be disconnected. Thank you!
