The following notes are taken from a compiled family genealogy (source attached). [1] Page 16: John and Nancy (Swan) Lewis separated when their daughter, Edith May, was quite young. John moved to Tennesee where he died. He is buried in Chatanooga. He was a welshman and had a brother named Dalton.
Marriage
On 26 Feb. 1854 John H.V. Lewis married Nancy Swan in Fulton Co., Illinois[2]. The source states: "This record can be found at the County Court Records located at Lewistown, IL."
Death
John Lewis died 11 June 1900 in Chattanooga, Hamilton Co., Tennessee. He is buried in Forest Cemetery in Chattanooga[3]. The following obituary is at the same source:
John H. Lewis, a prominent resident of the Sequatchee Valley, died at 8 o'clock Monday night in this city of Bright's disease.
Deceased was born in 1828 and was prominent in Sequatchee valley affairs. He has been ill of Bright's disease for years and on last Sunday his relatives and family decided to send him to Erlanger hospital this city for treatment. But the changes was more, it seems, than he could stand and he died en route from the Union Depot to Erlanger hospital, while in the ambulance. Deceased was a brother of Mrs. Dr. Whittaker of this city. The funeral and interment in Forest Hills cemetery occurred yesterday morning.
