He is the son of Hyman Lichtman and Ida (Katz) Lichtman, both Russian immigrants.[2]
In 1925, eleven year old Louis lived in Manhattan, New York, New York, United States with his father Hyman (also shown as Hepnar Lichtinian, age 57), mother Ida (age 50), and siblings Bessie (age 22), Rose (age 17), and Nancy (age 13). Louis's father was not working and Bessie was a dressmaker.[2]
