Notes
[9] David Cameron, the son of William and Jane Frances Lint Cameron, was born December 24, 1838, at New Brunswick, Canada. As a child of seven years of age he moved with his parents and two other children, namely Steven and Mammoree, both of whom died, to Nauvoo, Illinois, arriving there in the fall of 1845. In 1846 the family moved to Chicago, Illinois, where they remained until the fall of 1849, when they moved to Little Peigon, Iowa, where he was baptised in the spring of 1850.
During the summer of 1850 the family moved to Utah, settling at Provo, where they resided until 1861, when they moved to St. George.
Day, Lint and Branscombe families left abt 1845 for Nauvoo, IL. In 1842, some left for UT, other remained in Chicago - marjority went to Sydenham Township, Grey, ON [10]
After the Queensbury anti-Mormon riot of 1844, a group of local Mormons sold their farms and, in the spring of 1845, headed for the then Mormon headquarters of Nauvoo, Illinois. I don't know who they were but this was the time when the Bear Island "Christian" [Free Christian Baptist] church excommunicated the following members for Mormonism: William Cameron, James Cameron, Peter Cameron, George Cameron, George Day, Thomas Day, Charlotte Branscomb, Hannah Cameron, Sarah A. Cameron, Jane Cameron, Eliza Cameron, Ann Day, John Day. What else there is about Mormon defections in the Bear Island records I do not know as the churchbook has been in the hands of a private researcher for many years now. As to the migrants of 1845, when they reached Nauvoo that community was breaking up after the murder of Joseph Smith. Instead of following Young to Utah, they removed to Upper Canada.
Then in 1854, 77 people, mostly from Southampton but also from the Canterbury area (Carroll Ridge) migrated to Utah, a number dying en route. This was the migration that included Dr David Shelton's family, which had been the most prominant local converts to Mormonism from 1844 onwards.
