Biography

John Thomas Lithgow was born in Nova Scotia about 1856. He was the son of James R. Lithgow and Marion Gray.

At the time of the 1871 Canada Census, James R, Marion C, William, John T, Helen, Annie, James C, and Marion E. Lithgow were listed as living in Halifax, Nova Scotia, along with a servant^[1].

At the time of the 1881 Canada Census, James, Marion, John, Hellen, Annie, and James Lithgow were listed as living in Halifax, Nova Scotia^[2]. At the time of the census, John's occupation was listed as "Bank Clerk".

At the time of the 1891 Canada Census, James, Marion, William, John, Annie, and James Lithgow were listed as living in Halifax^[3]. At the time of the census, John's occupation was listed as "Clerk Savings Bank".

In 1898, John was working as a clerk in the office of the Assistant Receiver General in Halifax, Nova Scotia, when he was appointed as comptroller in the office of the Commissioner of the Yukon Territory^[4].

John served as comptroller of the Yukon from 1898 until 1909^[5].

John served as interim Commissioner of the Yukon from December 31, 1906 to June 17, 1907.

At the time of the 1901 Canada Census, Jn T (mistranscribed as "Jno J") Lithgow was listed as living in Dawson City, Yukon^[6]. At the time of the census, John's occupation was listed as "Comptroller YT".

In 1910, John was appointed as Canadian Trade Commissioner in Glasgow, Scotland^[5].
