TOM LOFTIN

Funeral services for Tom Loftin, 66, Rt. 1, Mize, were held Sunday, 2 p.m. from the Mize Baptist Church with the Revs. R. M. Cain and Mr. Hankins officiating. Burial was in Fairmont Cemetery.

Loftin died Saturday in Jasper General Hospital.

He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Lela Loftin, Mize; two daughters: Mrs. Tommie Jordan, Taylorsville; Miss Bonnie Sue Loftin, Mize; four sons: Paul W. Loftin, St. Helena, Calif.; Gaynell Loftin, Tillmon Loftin, both of Jackson; Hilman Loftin, Raleigh; 13 grandchildren.

Also five sisters: Mrs. Carrie Price, Hattiesburg; Mrs. Vera Walley, Biloxi; Mrs. Velma Harris, Mrs. Lois Grayson, both of Raleigh; Mrs. Mattie Brown, Picayune; five brothers: Curtis Loftin, Joe Loftin, both of Raleigh; Shine Loftin, Columbus; Morgan Loftin, Mize; and Harrison Loftin, Hattiesburg.

Memory Chapel was in charge of arrangements. ^[1]

Research Notes

He last name is Lofton in 1930 census. His dad used last name of Lofton in most censuses, WWI draft records, SSDi and headstone. ^[7] Bishop-4082 22:19, 4 April 2017 (EDT) Family lore states that he deliberately changed the spelling of his last name from Lofton to Loftin to avoid being confused with unrelated neighbors who used the Lofton spelling as well.
