John married Elizabeth Thomas, the daughter of Michael Thomas and Elizabeth (Bennett) Thomas.
Still researching to see if this John Long, who is the husband of Elizabeth Thomas and the father of Catherine Long, who married David Shotts, in Ross County, Ohio, is the same person mentioned in this quote:
"Veterans form other regions of the country also found the West alluring. Michael Long from Pennsylvania, known as "Black Mike," established a grist mill on the banks of the Millcreek to the south of Springfield [Ohio.] His family, through its marriage connections, became an extremely influential force in the area.
