Biography

When Nathaniel Lord was born on 1 June 1776, in Sanford, York, Maine, United States, his father, Tobias Lord, was 27 and his mother, Mehitabel Scammon, was 22. He married Phebe Walker on 20 May 1797, in Wells, York, Maine, United States. They were the parents of at least 2 sons and 6 daughters. He died on 21 February 1815, in Kittery, York, Maine, United States, at the age of 38, and was buried in Kennebunkport, York, Maine, United States.


From Smith's paper:

He was named after his uncle Nathaniel Lord who was killed Dec 31, 1775 while serving at Quebec under Generals Benedict Arnold and James Montgomery. Kennebunkport was then a busy seaport and shipbuilding center. As many as 25 ships a year were built there.

During the war of 1812, while ports were blockaded by the British Navy, Nathaniel Lord, who was a shipowner and builder, gave his ship's carpenters work to provide a house for his family, a three story white pile colonial house at Kennebunkport, which has since been known as the Lord Mansion....

Nathaniel Lord, son of Tobias Lord Jr. (abt.1748-abt.1808) and Mehitabel (Scammon) Lord (1753-1781), was born at Moulton's Mills (now Whicher's Mills) Sanford, Maine, 1 June 1776. He was bpatized 20 July 1776 at Biddeford, Maine.[1]

Nathaniel Lord of Wells & Phebe Walker of Arundel Intend marriage May 20th. 1797.[2] Nathaniel married 2 Jul 1797 at Kennebunkport, Maine, Phoebe Walker, daughter of Capt. Daniel and Lois (Stone) Walker (1781-1864).[3]
