When John Louden died Mary returned to Coromandel with family and sons Edward and Herbert got work in the gold mines until they shut down, then they shifted to Komata reefs and worked there in the mines for several years. They shifted then to Thames and worked there in the mines and Kauri bush. About 1906 Ted (Edward) and Herb (Herbert) hired a 4 wheeled coach with 4 horses to pull it and came toCoromandel from Komata for a fornights holiday. They returned for a visit with Vivian and four of her children. They left Coromandel at 4.00am arrived at Thames, changed horses and arrived at Komata at 9.00pm - 17 hours for what is now a 2hour trip. The mining battery for crushing the stone for the gold went on day and night, Vivian complained about the noise keeping her awake all night and Mary said she would soon get used to it - when it stops at night that is when everyone wakes up.
