Martin was born in Kentucky in 1835, the son of Jonathan Lovett and Elizabeth Prewitt.
He married Rosannah J. Vaught in Kentucky in 1859[1] and Lucinda (Benefiel) O'Laughlin in Illinois in 1882.[2] Martin passed away in 1917 and is buried in Neodesha, Kansas.[3]
