Biography

Edward was born in Martock, Somerset, in 1828 to John Lye and Grace Rodd.

He was 12 years old when his parents made the decision to emigrate to New Zealand. The family left Plymouth on the 19 November 1840 aboard the William Bryan, arriving at New Plymouth on the 31 March 1841. ^[1]

Edward married Catherine Faull on the 11 January 1855. ^[2]

He died on the 13 February 1916 at Tikorangi. ^[3] He is buried at the Tikorangi Cemetery. The headstone reads:

In loving memory of Catherine the wife of Edward LYE who died 13th Sept 1903 aged 73 years also Edward LYE who died 13th Feb 1916 aged 87 years
