    • Hezekiah was 33 years old (b. 1830), 6’ tall, had blue eyes, and was born in North Carolina. He was a free man of color and a farmer in Hillsdale, Hillsdale Co., before the war. He enlisted in Detroit, MI on 4-Nov-1863. He mustered into Co. D of the 102nd Regiment US Colored Infantry on 2-Dec-1863 as a Sergeant. He was appointed First Sergeant in July 1865. His service was credited to Hillsdale, Hillsdale Co., MI. He mustered out at Charleston, SC on 30-Sep-1865.

DEATH OF H. MADRY.
W. P. Robbins’ well known Driver Passed Away.
Mr. Hezekiah Madry died at his home, No. 5 Brunson Court, at 2 o’clock this morning after an illness of about one months. The direct cause of death was due to heart failure.
Mr. Madry had been in ill health for about two years during which time he had continued his occupation as teamster for Mr. W. P. Robbins, where he has been employed for about ten years. About a month ago he was confined to his home with an attack of the shingles and though he had suffered much during his last illness his sudden death was quite a shock to the family as he was able to be about the house and was out in the yard only a few hours previous to his death and was quite rational up to his death.
Mr. Madry moved to Benton Harbor from Van Buren county about twenty-two years ago and has labored steadily to procure a home. Deceased was an old soldier and at one time was a member of the Grand Army Post in St. Joseph. He was an ardent member of the Second Baptist church in this city and was one of the founders of the church. He leaves a wife and eight children. Two daughters in Kokomo, Ind. And a son in Grand Rapids have been notified. Deceased was 65 years old the 5th day of April.
The funeral will be held Wednesday morning from the Second Baptist church with burial at Crystal Springs cemetery.
